Explanations by the artist on the work entitled: Functioning?

Is socialism good or bad? Is capitalism good or bad? A question to which you get different answers depending on who you ask. A question of faith? Or rather to answer unequivocally? As so often in life, questions on ethical issues cannot be answered unequivocally. Good and bad and opinion surrounding you, very different in science between true and false lies assumption. If the assumption is scientifically clarified, it becomes a truth. Scientific, reproducible and comprehensible.

The work of art Functoning poses the question of good and bad. Right or wrong with regard to the various economic function models and real existing economic forms in our world and tries to answer you with an analogy from technology.
If I were asked whether I am a capitalist, I would answer the question with a resounding yes, just as I would answer the question whether I am a socialist with a resounding yes. For many people, my answers would present a clear paradox.

A comparison with a racing car. Would the toughest racing driver come up with the idea of setting up his racing car in this way and doing without the damper or the spring in the suspension/damping of his racing car? No, because he couldn't win a race that way. The damping/suspension of the car has to be adapted to the road surface and needs damping to dampen road bumps and a spring so that the damping/suspension system always returns to its zero position.

Otherwise, with only one damper, the system would quickly reach the lower waypoint and there would be no further way to dampen. Work is force times distance. So no more energy could be absorbed. Conversely, a system equipped with only one spring would not be able to dampen bumps in the road and the car would quickly lose contact with the ground and fly out of the corner.

Terms such as capitalism, socialism, spring, damper, oscillation, movement, collapse, courage, greed, etc. appear in the artwork. They symbolize the various forces in our society that need to be balanced in order to achieve and maintain a stable, peaceful society.

The sphere in the work of art symbolizes our earth or society and is to be understood at the same time as a cushioning ball. A spherical feather wraps around you. Which can also be understood as a kind of snake in paradise. Important and correct, but it must be kept in check.

Classification of the Artwork Functioning? by the artist

In today's modern and often scientifically shaped world, there are often diffuse exchanges of opinion. Often determined by dogma and individual socialization. Our own understanding makes us truly individuals. Self-reflection and the associated thought models. What happened if. The Globe Spring/Damper deals with analogies from different areas of knowledge about hysteria and often tries to question very contrary opinions in our world. Why are there stock market hates and stock market crashes at regular intervals? Why is there fanaticism and indifference? Why is something nonsense for one and not for the other? Etc.

What are the reasons for the different hypes and exaggerations in our society?
Analogies can make you think and sometimes even open your eyes in a very striking way.

The wavy, concave and convex structures symbolize the energy that is present in every system and is in constant transformation. The sphere in shades of red is also a representation of energy. The spring in blue symbolizes the “cool” spring, which ideally is super-elastic and does not convert any energy. UV active colors (excited by an external UV light source) underline the virtual appearance of energy conversion.

The "ArtKey", by Kilian Saueressig on: Functioning?

Functioning?: A wall sculpture with many colourful, spatial and human facets.

The ArtKey summarizes the stylistic elements of the work of art, compressed to the essentials.

INV (inversion):
The wall sculpture contains the inversion or the opposite poles spring and damper as well as the analogy to it, capitalism and socialism. Concave wave in the form of its convex counterpart as a plastic representation of energy conversion.

AS (association):
The conversion of energy. The damped vibration. spring/damping system. Capitalism/socialism = social market economy.

ENT (alienation):
Alienated representation of the topic of social market economy.

VER (simplification):
Simplified presentation of the subject of the social market economy.

PiP (picture in picture):
Several image levels are superimposed to form a large number of images.

UEB (exaggeration):
No major exaggeration.

ILU (illusion):
The illusion of glowing, radiating energy.

INT (interaction):
Viewing of the image by viewer. Changes in the image (color, brightness) caused by internal and external light sources. Interaction with the environment/haptics and skin feel.

High gloss structures:
Mirror interaction with its environment. Haptic structure invites you to touch it.
